Evidence Of Validity: High Motivation Accompanies High PBIT Per Employee
EMI (Employee Motivation Index)
The positive correlation (r = .12; n = 266; p < .05) between the mean Employee
Motivation Index (averaged within each of the 266 participating teams) and actual
PBIT (profit before income taxes) per Employee shows that EMI has both validity
& direct business utility: Motivated employees generate higher profit per person.
Poorly-designed employee surveys
ask questions that have no
business utility. Well-designed
reliability AND high validity AND
business utility. Even skeptics
can agree that the results matter.
